Wendy L. Bowcher is a Professor in the School of Foreign Languages at Sun Yat-sen University, China. Her research interests include context in Systemic Functional Linguistic theory, analyses of multimodal texts in Japanese and English, English intonation and language education. Bradley A. Smith is an independent researcher, and collaborator with the Multimodal Analysis Laboratory at the National University of Singapore on the development of software for the study of multimodal discourse. His major research interests are intonation, register, and multimodality, in particular the roles of sonic resources within cultures.
